See the Real Aruba: Aruba Car Rental

For years, I’ve been a regular in Aruba, but I never tried an Aruba car rental until my last vacation. Honestly, I never even left my resort the first time I went. The nightclubs and casino were enough for me. The “red carpet” treatment left me feeling dazzled and I kept coming back for more.

The next year, I decided to go shopping in Oranjestad. The city is small, and it wasn’t far from my resort. I caught a shuttle there and then got around on my own two feet. When I got there, I went straight to downtown on the main thoroughfare Lloyd G. Smith Blvd.

There were a ton of restaurants to choose from. The resorts really cater to the American tourist crowd, but Oranjestad is all about the local culture. It’s a crossroads of Dutch, Spanish, English, and Creole. Try some local faire. Aruban cuisine offers recipes mixed with rum, fresh seafood, coconut, goat, and papaya.

Oranjestad is the place to go to feel how this island really lives. The shopping is what got me. Oranjestad has two ports that offer high-end shopping and local handcrafts and t-shirts. This is when I swore next year I’d bet an Aruba car rental. I’m never going to walk around in the sun with all those bags again.

When I got my car rental next year, we went back into Oranjestad to shop. However, on the way there we decided to drive around a bit. Aruba is only six miles wide at the widest point and 20 miles long. We had been on the pristine white beaches of the southwest coast for so long that I had no idea the northeast was filled with a scuba diving, natural bridges, and beautiful National Parks everywhere.

Next year, we decided to explore Aruba even more with a 4×4 Aruba car rental that will allow access to some of the dirt roads and trails. My Aruba car rental opened my mind to a world of culture and fun.
