If you think that you have to sacrifice enjoyment and excitement for a top paying job, you’ve got it all wrong. To be quite honest, some of the highest paying careers in the world are those that are the most rewarding – in more ways than one.

Many people have the wrong notion that having one of the highest paying careers means being cooped up in a corporate office staring at numbers and vice-versa.

Although there are corporate jobs that pay exceedingly well, there are also a great number of wonderful job opportunities that will make you feel like you’re not even at work! Want to find out what these opportunities are? Read on!

1) Airline Pilots

A lot of boys (and some girls) grow up wanting to become an airline pilot. However, not a lot of them actually pursue the career. Somewhere along the way, they forego such seemingly distant dreams for something closer to home. Another obstacle is that it’s quite expensive to study and train for this type of career.

However, airline pilots have one of the highest paying careers in the world. There are also a multitude of benefits that come with flying a plane. The travel perks for you and your family certainly counts as one of those advantages. It’s also easy to map out your career once you start on this path. The higher your rank, the better paid you will be.

2) Podiatrists

A medical career is definitely one of the highest paying careers in the world. However, becoming a doctor or a surgeon takes a whole lot of time and money. Not everyone can spend years studying medicine, although the return on investment is almost guaranteed.

Still, not all branches of medicine are that way. You can opt to become a podiatrist – a doctor who deals with injured feet and ankles. Usually, you must have at least three years of college before you can get into a school of podiatry. Still, it’s considerably a shorter term than if you pursue general practice. It might not be a very glamorous occupation, but the pay is good and your hours are usually your own.

3) Accountants

Accountants are also among the highest paid careers out there. While you do have to deal with numbers, it’s more about understanding the business rather than real Math equations.

This job is also non-gender specific, which makes it an ideal career prospect for anybody. Not to mention, there is a shortage of certified accountants in the world. If you’re good at what you do, companies will run after you and offer you skyrocketing salaries.

Even if you have one of the highest paying careers in the world, keep in mind that not everything is about money. If you’re not happy with your job, it won’t be long before you wear yourself out. Love what you do and be grateful for what you already have.

Career search engines have taken job hunting to a whole new level. Back in the day, job hopefuls had to make a personal appearance just to submit their resume. They had to look at the classified ads section of the paper to find out which companies had an opening or what kinds of jobs were available. Even then, not everything was listed.

When the Internet technology boomed, career search engines were set up to make life easier for both the applicants and their potential employers. It’s the perfect set up for both parties, especially now that there are millions of fresh graduates and job seekers looking for a job every year. Still don’t have much faith in career search engines? Well, you’ll soon have a change of heart after you read this article.

Careerbuilder.com

Build it and they will come. CareerBuilder.com certainly knew and used this adage well. This particular career search engine is one of the first to set up such a business back in 1995 and has served as a good basis for other career search engines all over the world.

Registering here is easy and hassle free. And since CareerBuilder.com has been around for a while, there is more game there. Aside from providing companies with applicants and vice-versa, CareerBuilder.com has also expanded their services to a more applicant-friendly level.

There are useful articles on employment and career building, a comprehensive salary calculator, job description, and even career quizzes for the curious.

Monster.com

Contrary to the name, registering at Monster.com isn’t a terrifying experience. Unlike most career search engines, this particular Web site has a friendlier and more sophisticated layout. There aren’t a dizzying number of links to distract you from your ultimate goal of finding a job that matches your skills.

At the moment, they have a trial service called Career Mapping which allows applicants to sort out where they want their careers to go. Monster.com definitely isn’t interested in a one shot deal. Their services prove that they’re there for you in the long run.

Yahoo! HotJobs

Another well recommended career search engine is Yahoo! HotJobs. Being a world-renowned company does have its perks!

Aside from the usual services and links offered by similar career sites, Yahoo! HotJobs makes the list because of the site’s Question and Answer section. The Web site has made good use of its Yahoo! Answers technology which allows users from different parts of the world to respond to a particular question or to post one of their own. As a registered user or even just as a lurker, you get to hear what real people have to say about real situations.

Career search engines have taken over the job hunting industry. Sure, classified ads still have some importance, but everything is high tech now. Companies also want the convenience of having a resume automatically sent to their email and having a good pick over millions of online applicants. Let’s face it. If you want to get a good job, you have to think forward. And that’s what career search engines are here for.

by Hugo Amblyne

When you were a child, you probably dreamed of having that one perfect career. A cowboy, firefighter, astronaut, or perhaps a circus clown. But then, something else happened. You grew up. Suddenly you had grown-up responsibilities to meet and bills to pay. You graduated from school and were expected to take a good, decent job. So you settled on what you could get at the time, and your dream job remained just a dream.

If you dreamed of being a truck driver, it’s not too late to make it happen. After all, you spend hours fantasizing about hitting the open road, so why not use that time to make it happen? If your dream gig is driving a big rig; if you live to cruise the highways, visit new places and explore new horizons; this is the time to get started.

Really successful people don’t just love what they do; they do what they love. A paycheck is not their measure of success. It’s the pride and confidence that they have in their work. Other people are envious, but those sour souls think it must be luck or a guarded secret, rather than taking the cue and following their own dreams. Jealous people often fail to realize that successful people worked hard for their good fortune, and sometimes struggle to land their dream career.

Dream careers are not reserved for a blessed few. You have a dream, too, and you can attain it. But, you need to be willing to work hard to get there. Magic and mystery are not part of the process. It takes only a few simple and proven steps. If you want to be a truck driver, these four steps will get you on the road:

1. Believe in Yourself. If you really believe that a driving career is in reach, you will attain it. Self-confidence is a critical and often overlooked element to true success. You need to genuinely believe that you deserve to be a trucker, and can handle the responsibilities. People who realize their career dreams are those who believe in their goals. And it is not difficult to become a true believer. On paper or screen, jot down your image of yourself working in a truck driving job in detail. Sketch a simple picture that you can read or look at daily. Use this form of positive reinforcement to inspire you.

2. Get the Facts. Now that you are confident in your own potential for success, you must back up your beliefs with relevant facts. Research what specific steps will be needed to bring your picture to life. Once you know this, you’ll be more comfortable when it’s time to take action. Where are the nearest truck driver training schools? How do they rate with graduates? Will your dream job require specialized training beyond the CDL or LGV/HGV license? If a trucking career will mean a drop in pay, is that important to you or do you value happiness over money? Ask every possible question, and give yourself honest answers. Once you have all of the facts, you will be prepared and ready to take action.

3. Commit to Your Success. Some people are truly frightened of success. To be a true success not only requires honesty and commitment, but also contains the potential to fail. Successful people are almost never afraid to say, “I will”. Most of us are not inclined to make strong commitments. We often say that keeping ourselves “tied down” will somehow hinder us from being open to other opportunities. Don’t obsess about the odds of something better coming along. Commitment gives you a far more powerful reason to get out of bed each morning and work toward becoming a truck driver.

4. Make a Plan. Once you’ve committed to starting a trucking career, map out the path you’ll take. Look at your research and put your list of facts into play. Take your big plan and break it down into smaller and more easily obtainable goals. Create a timeline and write these goals on your calendar. Make a ‘to-do’ list, and then get on your way. It’s important to manage your priorities and focus only on the items that will actually bring you closer to your success. Stop dreaming, and use your time to accomplish those all-important small first steps. If you need help, ask for it. Delegate or eliminate tasks whenever possible. If your family supports your choice to become a truck driver, speak with them about helping you accomplish your goals.

No matter what you may believe about those fortunate and truly successful people, dream careers don’t fall from the sky. Success comes to those who really believe in themselves, and work hard to bring their dreams to life. Don’t worry about taking those small steps; it’s the best way to reap your biggest rewards. One day soon you’ll be rolling down the highway as a confident, successful truck driver enjoying your dream career.

Are you looking for advice in your career planning? Are you wondering where you can find good advice to help you make something out of your life? There are a lot of good websites to help you to take your career planning advice seriously. It is important that when you are a job seeker that you look for some expert advice for planning your career.

In college, you are taught how to be prepared for the real world, but then when you graduate you end up feeling completely lost. Your future success in life depends on how well you plan your career from the very beginning, and on how well you equip yourself to deal with the learning curve needed for success in the workplace and in navigating your way around office politics for instance.

As for some of the advice that you are going to hear, you are going to find that everyone is going to tell you that you need to make sure that your personality and your dream goals match. You can also take some online tests to help you to make sure that your aptitude and expectations will match any career you are considering at the moment. You will be able to research a solid path for your future.

With the results from your personality and career tests you will be able to find something that could make you feel good about yourself and pull your life around. Many personnel and recruitment agencies have job applicants complete such tests, so it is helpful if you already have some experience in completing these tests and can be less stressed in such a test environment. This will help you to shine in a job interview situation.

The second piece of advice that everyone is going to tell you is the fact that you are going to have to do a lot of research and work to find the career that will make you happy. You are going to have to make lists and look up each and every career that holds some interest for you. You are going to have to make sure that the career that you pick will make you happy, and if you do your proper research, you should be able to find a career that is fulfilling. You will also want to do a lot of hands on experience for you to get a real clue as to what you can do with your life. You can also seek out the assistance of a career development counselor through your college or job agency.

The last piece of advice is that you will want to follow your heart. This means that if you don’t feel like going into some field, then don’t! You don’t want to waste your time, as you may end up in a dead end job for the rest of your life. You will find that if you follow your heart and some career decisions for the very beginning then you will end up being successful when it comes to designing a career for yourself.

I have found a site created by Helene Malmsio who has had 20 years of employment recruitment and staff training experience. On this site there are hundreds of resources to help you plan your career, including a no-obligation report download and eCourse you can also subscribe to, that can be used by anyone wanting some expert help in trying to develop their career further. It also has HR management articles for new executives just learning about their staff recruiting and management processes along with staff career planning pathways.

It is very important that you do that what it takes to make something of yourself, because there is a lot of people who work all their lives, but waste every opportunity put their way to develop their careers further. Those people are never happy because they are never able to achieve success that is the bets piece of advice that you can ever get for career planning.

Make sure you get your hands on all the information you can use to be in control of your future work pathways and opportunities in your lifetime career path.

As you enter the job market, (for the first time or after a while) you might find that there are a lot of buzzwords thrown around, including the terms career and job. You might be looking for a career, but you aren’t going to enter the career market! Decide if you are looking for a job or a career today, and how to get the position you want.

According to the Oxford English Dictionary, a job is a piece of work that you do because of your occupation. A job also describes paid employment. A career, according to the OED, is a person’s course or progress through life.- This article defines job as the place where you are employed, and career as the field in which you work.

Even though you might have lost your job, you may still have a career. For instance, if you are an x-ray technician who has been laid off, chances are that you will be able to find new work in the field. Your job might change slightly: you might become a dental x-ray technician, or a veterinary x-ray technician rather than a hospital x-ray technician, but you will still remain an x-ray technician.

You can choose to change either your job or your career. For instance, you might still want to have your career as a computer technician, but you want to advance to a higher paying and more prestigious job. This would mean finding a new a job and quitting your current job. Conversely, you might feel that you want to change your career. Perhaps you no longer feel that you want to be a computer technician and instead you would like to become a journalist. Career-changes are more time-consuming that job-changes because they often require training. You will find yourself looking for experience in a field with which you don’t have experience. Neither career-changes nor job-changes are impossible, and often they bring much happiness.

When you are looking for a new job, it is important to consider what this means for your career. Some people choose not to have a career. Rather than having an over-arching goal in life, or in the field in which they wish to specialize, they would rather simply move from job to job. They might wait tables for a few years, then work as a receptionist, then work in retail.

You can, however, choose to have a career. In order to have a career, you need to have a plan. What are your interests? What would you like to be paid? Once you have planned your goals, you might have to take certain steps to achieve them. It is all well and good to watch a few episodes of Law & Order and then decide that you want to be a high-paid lawyer, but the reality of the matter is that you will have to go to law school for years, which is an expensive and time-consuming proposition. Also, you might find that a real-life courtroom isn’t as stimulating as a courtroom drama series. So if you have set a career goal, speak to people in that career. Volunteer or intern in that environment so that you know what to expect in your future life.

You can also create a career out of a job. Perhaps you work as an assistant in an office. If you want to become a sales representative, you might need to take some courses. You might need to put in a few years behind the front desk. Ask your supervisor what opportunities you have for advancement, and how you can achieve it. Another way to create a career out of a job is to work in retail and accept promotions that you get to management. Management is often more work and more hours, but the higher pay and possibility for promotion might appeal to you.

Some people choose to work a job while they are trying to create a career. Many students work summer jobs that are not related to their field. They might want the break from the same material, or they might not be able to find a job in their field until they have completed their degree. If you take a job, consider how it affects your career. Are you biding your time there until you can break into a separate market? If so, when and how will you make your move to your career? Many people work at a job while they search for a career; if you don’t keep your ultimate goals in your mind, you might end up staying at the job you don’t particularly care for for much longer than you had originally planned.

There are careers that are often begun later in life. Many careers in ministry are begun after retiring from a first career. A career in politics can similarly begin after having a career in a different field.

Career planning, like all planning, takes both short- and long-term thinking. Make your goals accordingly. Write down your goals so that you can refer back to them and see how you are progressing.

While you are looking for a job, always think about your career. You will be able to find your ideal job if you work diligently and are not afraid of a few rejections. So go find that perfect job, or simply find a job while you work on building the career of your dreams.
