The recent shake up in the world economy was a wakeup call for everyone. People who thought the economy couldn’t have been better, learned a hard lesson: The economy can and does fall when it is dependent on a few. A few months down the line, the ripple effects of this “mayhem” are still felt in many homes, families and companies. Many professionals were let go, “voluntarily retired”, or outrightly laid off. Companies such as Panasonic closed down over 200 plants in a short 3 months, while Citigroup, the parent company of Citibank and other subsidiaries has plans to lay off at least five thousand of its workers before the end of the 3rd quarter.

For some people, the damage done was so irreparable they had to resort selling their properties, cars, assets, withdrawing their kids from schools and even suicide as a last option. The present situation has got a lot of young adults and youths thinking more in terms of financially stable jobs that also has the potential of a lifelong career. One of these careers is the pharmacy technician.

While many people were being laid off their jobs in the banking and finance sectors, more pharmacy technicians were being hired to meet the rising demand for more hands and professionals in the health care sector. According to various medical news sources, the demand for pharmacy technicians is gradually increasing as more people fall sick nowadays compared to the ’70s and ’80s. Estimated surveys and statistics also show that as more people fall ill and more hands are needed, the demand for their services is bound to increase over the next 10 years.

For many people, the profession of the pharmacy technician is often placed on the same pedestal as a pharmacist. This however, is not true. Pharmacy technicians are like assistants to the pharmacists. They work alongside the pharmacist functioning and work as record keepers, aides to the pharmacists, getting patient records, and ensure make sure that all prescriptions are verified before delivery to the patients, keep and preserve medical files or data and can help in the application of the right labels to all prescriptions tendered.

Pharmacy technicians can work in the groceries, nursing homes, pharmacy shops, retails pharmacy shops, online pharmacies, hospitals, drug producing factories and everywhere the services of pharmacists are required. While they earn less than pharmacists, their annual salaries vary between twenty five thousand dollars a year to fifty thousand dollars ($25000 – $50000). And recent trends show that the salaries will increase with time as the demand for their services increase too.

Becoming a pharmacy technician entails hard work and discipline. Various schools offer the course both offline and online. Training under a pharmacist can get any interested individual a job. However, most employers prefer some form of formal education. Thus creating two groups of pharmacy technicians: Certified and uncertified. An individual can become certified by writing any of the following examinations:

1. ExCPT (Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians). OR
2. PTCB (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board)

This newsletter goes out to about 500 people each month. Many of you may question why this topic would be of interest since you have a good job and appear to be pretty safe and stable in it. However, according to recent studies 400 of the 500 people reading this will have a new job in the next five years. So this is a very relevant topic for most people.

I am currently working with several people as they go through a career transition (translation – out of work and looking for a job). As we explore options and help them focus on the future, there are some interesting facts about the job market that everyone should be aware of. In my generation, a job was defined as working for a large company, like IBM, Dupont, or Ford. Our vision was that we could get a nice salary, great benefits, a comfortable retirement and all we had to do was work hard and progress steadily up the corporate ladder.

Here are some realities of the current job market:

- The average person entering the work force today will have between 10 and 14 jobs by the time they are age 39. This is driven by a rapidly changing business environment that sees companies come and go much more frequently than ever in the past.

- Only 2.6 percent of jobs in the U.S. are with companies that employ more than 99 people. A person who equates a job with working for a large organization is severely limiting options in the future.

- The top ten jobs that will be in demand in 2010 did not exist in 2004. Technology, world markets, and population demographics are creating new jobs every day. The problem is finding people with the right skills and personal characteristics to handle the new jobs.

So to prepare for your next career transition, here are some things you can do now to be prepared:

1. Build a network. Only 12 percent of positions that are available are advertised. Most are filled through word-of-mouth and networking. Get to know people, particularly those who own their own businesses. Show genuine interest in their business.

I never thought I would say this, but take advantage of social networking web sites like Facebook or Twitter to meet additional people. If you don’t believe in the power of this, it took 30 years for radio to reach 50 million people, 20 years for TV to reach 50 million people, and 2 years for Facebook to reach 50 million people.

2. Upgrade your skills constantly. You have to be technologically savvy in today’s world. If you are in a profession that has declining demand, then it may be time to consider getting additional education through local technical colleges or even through online training programs.

3. Get healthy. The number of jobs that provide full health care benefits is declining and will continue to do so. There is a good chance that your next job will not have as good of benefits as the one you left. The best way to lower you medical costs is to live a healthy life style.

4. Explore self employment opportunities. A recent estimate said that around 60 percent of households in the U.S. have some form of business operating out of the home. While on the surface self employment may seem to be the least secure form of employment, it may actually be the best way to achieve long term stability and security. Having been self employed for ten years, there is no way that I could see myself back in a corporate job.

Being self employed doesn’t necessarily mean that you will make more money and spend less time at work. In reality you will probably make less money and spend more time, but the rewards of being in control of your own destiny can outweigh these.

5. Get your finances house in order. The reason that many people get stressed during times of career transition is that they have failed to plan for an interruption in income and benefits. They are one missed paycheck away from financial ruin. Make a plan that assumes that you will miss three months pay in the next three years. What would you do? It is amazing how much money we routinely spend on stuff that we could do without during a true crunch.

As you read this, I hope that you are one of the hundred that won’t have to face a career transition, but is it worth taking the chance? Time spent preparing now will lessen the impact if it actually happens.

The Pharmaceutical industry is growing in leaps and bounds. Most people can say that they’ve viewed a commercial about a new drug that’s been developed or spent time talking with a pharmacy tech at their local drug store. With earnings averaging in the mid to high $100K annual range, and an above average growth rate expected for careers, there are many opportunities to work in this field if this interests you. Here’s how you can find the right education path you need to obtain pharmacist jobs.

A pharmacist job generally requires a good deal of education, starting with a Bachelor’s degree in Science from an accredited college or university. In 1992, a majority of the nation’s schools voted to create a Doctorate program in pharmaceutical studies, so that is generally the standard that professional pharmacists adhere to in their educational pursuits. So, on average, Pharmacists must get the same number of years of education as a Physician or Lawyer before they can take a state board exam and become a professional working pharmacist. That’s a total of six years of post-secondary education.

In general, the education that pharmacists must have consists of studies in Pharmacology (the study of drugs), Chemistry, Clinical Care and Administration. In addition, pharmacists must have a solid background in mathematics and general biological science. Excellent writing and communications skills are vital to success in pharmacy as are knowledge of literature, history, government and social studies. Pharmacy is unique in that it combines the people aspect of care to the field of science, so being able to manage people and their needs is an important skill for any pharmacist to have.

In addition to the regular college classes they take, many pharmacists choose to work in either a pharmacy technician program as part of their learning process. There are multiple opportunities for pharmacy students to get all or part of their educational expenses paid for while they are in school if they become employed by a major pharmaceutical company or retailer. There is a big need for skilled pharmacists so companies are often ready to help with the costs of education to recruit them after graduation.

Once all college or university courses have been completed, the next step in the process is to take a state licensing exam. This is similar to a doctor or legal professional taking their state board exams. At the successful completion of the testing process, the pharmacy student or technician may begin working as a professional pharmacist. Each year, pharmacists are required to retrain or get additional coursework to keep their licenses and knowledge base up to date.

Becoming a pharmacist is a rewarding career choice for individuals who enjoy helping others manage their medical care via drugs and medicine treatments. This allows them to work with patient care, but stay out of the clinical setting. By following the above tips, you can be well on your way to getting an education in pharmacy too.

Transcription Services are creating a huge employment opportunity worldwide. For perspective, a 2006 Market Intelligence Service report of National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) estimates that at least 120-150 companies are engaged in medical transcription there. India has an estimated.
18,000 transcriptionists today, but the number is expected to swell to 50,000 by 2010. Similar acceleration is projected in the Philippines where the number of MTs is pegged to climb from 7,000 to 25,000 by 2010. The growth in transcription is outstripping the ability of the U.S. based professionals to meet the demand. The Volumes continue to climb despite introduction of new technologies from time to time. An estimate by the U.S. Departmant of Labor suggested that the U.S. healthcare industry will need 90,000 additional medical record professionals by 2012.A blended approach is worked out where the there are two or more countries involved depending on the needs clients.

Nevertheless the essentials of Transcription job which are the quality people, educational excellence, information security and technological innovation cannot be compromised at any cost. Regardless of venue, educated and credentialed staff with the right set of skills and training must be available 24×7.

Such employers do find language and dialect barriers. These issues must be faced whether working within different U.S. regions or overseas. As in the U.S., now in other countries too, the female workers work from home as it guarantees a certain level of lifestyle flexibility. At the same time the security is also kept in mind, whereby the employers use digital certificates and encryption (digital signature) and give assurance to their clients that they are connected to a valid server and files are being accessed by authorized individuals only.

Transcription is one field which actually pays very well and may be used by us for a proper paying home based job. It may be used by students or retired persons as a part time job. Transcription Services are provided by many companies and organizations that employ the above. They employ subcontractors and many, whose number is rising, outsource the transcription work.

Jobs in Cairo attract a lot of expatriates. This huge and vibrant city offers many exciting career opportunities to qualified and trained professionals in various verticals. It can be said that Cairo represents the contemporary Middle East. It is a lively city with resident count anywhere between 16 to 18 million people. There is a huge population of foreign nationals from Europe, North America and other countries who are working in Cairo. The city offers a comfortable and warm environment to foreign workers who take up work here. There are also many lifestyle activities that the city offers to those who want to pursue their interests after work hours.

Expatriates who are doing jobs in gulf or Cairo include teachers, lawyers, web designers, consultants, journalists and editors. Those who know how to write and speak Arabic have an added advantage over others. Also, in Cairo, there is a demand for language experts to teach English to the local population. There are ample jobs for expatriates in Cairo but not many in other cities of Egypt outside Cairo. The economy of Egypt is mainly dependent on Cairo. The jobs are mainly categorized into two categories- those paid in the Egyptian Pound and those paid in foreign currencies. Most of the jobs that are paid in US dollars are not available on an ad-hoc basis. One has to line up and arrange for these jobs before arriving in the city.

The best way to find a job in Cairo is networking. The job market thrives on word of mouth and reference is the key tool to land a job. That is also one of the reasons to learn Arabic as it helps to socialize with other Egyptians. Most expatriates and Egyptians would have their business cards printed in both English and Arabic. Handing out business cards to anyone you meet for business or networking events helps one get a job fast. One can also form a bigger network and make new contacts by meeting people at local churches, cultural organizations, and clubs. Sometimes, expatriates also go for volunteering at relief camps.

The major sectors that offer employment in Cairo include education, development (NGOs), publishing, and for-profit businesses. In the education sector, there are ample teaching jobs for expatriates in Cairo. Teachers with experience are hired for teaching various subjects in Cairo schools. These jobs have to be arranged and applied for before arriving in Cairo. One could also register as a tutor at these schools. Then, there is also requirement for English teachers at private schools in Cairo.

Other than the education sector, the social sector also offers good career opportunities to expatriates. There are many NGOs based in Cairo offering relief work to expatriates. There are contract based as well as project based jobs available in these NGOs. There are jobs in various capacities available in Cairo.

There are good jobs in the writing and publishing industry too in Cairo. There are many English newspapers and magazines being published in Cairo that need full-time English writers. There are many other jobs in the publishing industry too in Cairo. One can work as a part-timer, freelancer or full time staff writer with these publications. To be a full-time worker, one needs to have a lot of experience. Besides writing, there are copy-editing jobs too.

There many jobs in Cairo in the areas of public relations, marketing and advertising. In fact, these are hot employment areas in Cairo. Then, there are many out of the box career options that one can pursue too. There are jobs in the healthcare and wellness industry too. There are jobs advertised on job portals though most jobs can be found through networking, as mentioned earlier. There are other industries such as IT, banking and finance, hospitality etc too that have jobs for expatriates. One can route through job consultants too but it is advisable to check the credentials of the consultant before taking up any job offer as many bogus players also operate in this field that lure the jobseekers with fake offers of lucrative jobs.

While living and working in Cairo, one gets a great opportunity to learn more about the Arabic culture and the richness and history of Egypt. With a little determination and open-mindedness, one can enjoy an experience of a lifetime while working in Cairo.

You can not open the newspaper or watch a news broadcast without being aware of how many Americans are losing their jobs. As devastating as this can be how you handle it is very important for both your financial security and peace of mind. If you follow some of the steps below hopefully we can make a very difficult time a little easier.

How to: Handle Job Loss

First, make sure you collect all of the wages that are owed to you by your former employer. Not just your salary, but any vacation and sick pay owed to you should be collected. If you were promised a bonus or are owed commissions make sure you collect those also. Don’t let the employer intimidate you.

Advice about: Landing Perfect Job

Second, check into your health insurance to see how you can take advantage of COBRA. It is now more important than ever to make sure you have coverage in case of an emergency. Going to the doctor or the hospital without insurance, could cost you all of your savings.

Next, check with your states unemployment to see if you are eligible. If you are fill out the forms as soon as possible so you can receive your first check quickly. The basic amount of time for unemployment is 26 weeks. But now with the high rate of unemployment extensions are being given. Make sure you check all of your options.

In addition, don’t be embarrassed many people are losing their jobs today through no fault of their own. Tell people, talk about it. Don’t isolate yourself. You never know when you are talking to someone they may know of a position for you.

Lastly, take this opportunity to evaluate what you want to do with the rest of your life. This a perfect time to consider starting your own business. Many folks are looking to online home businesses. Even if at first it is only part time it can grow into a full time profitable endeavor. Most important, don’t get down on yourself, keep a positive attitude and think of this whole experience as a new beginning.

A dialysis technician is responsible for setting up and operating dialysis machines and monitoring kidney patients since dialysis machines help in removing toxins, waste products and extra fluids from the patient’s blood. You can become a certified Dialysis Technician by taking up a training program. Here are 7 easy steps on your way of becoming a Dialysis Technician!

Step 1: Learn about the job!
Know the job description!

Step 2: Know the career duties
A Dialysis Technician has to prepare solutions that are use to sterilize the patients’ blood before the dialysis treatment starts. She/he also has to record the blood pressure of the patient, his weight and vital signs both before and at the end of the treatment. Then, the patient’s condition has to be reported to a supervising nurse and physician, as the case may be.

Also, you will be prepared to respond quickly during emergencies involving dialysis treatments. The job also requires the technician to clean up, sterilize and also maintain the dialysis machinery.

Step 3: High School Diploma
A high school diploma or an equivalent of the diploma is a primary requirement for the training programs. In addition, you may also want to enroll in math, science and other health occupation classes to help you with your post secondary studies.

Step 4: Certificates and Licenses
In addition to the diploma, you will need a certificate as “Dialysis Technician” from any national organization. This can be any organization but ones like the Board of Nephrology Examiners Nursing and Technology (Check out http://www.bonent.org), and the National Nephrology Certification Organization (Check out http://www.ptcny.com) are especially preferred among employers today. You can also get a national certificate as a qualification for the state licensure.

Step 5: Dialysis Technician training program
You will need to learn anatomy and physiology, CPR, assessment of a patient, and first aid. You will also need to know the correct method to set up and operate the various dialysis equipment. Along with that you will need to prepare dialysis prescriptions, and perform venipuncture and care for patients before, during and after treatment. You will also go through tens of hours in clinical training which will be supervised in the training programs.

Step 6: Education hours
To renew your Dialysis Technician certificates and licenses, you will need to complete a specified number of education hours as a prerequisite. Also the training can be a stepping stone for those who are looking to expand their career towards a registered (or even a licensed vocational) nurse.

Step 7: Work
Be ready to churn out any amounts of work hours that your employer may ask. Since jobs are hard to find now a days, you must be totally prepared to put in all the hard work that is required of you. Being a Dialysis Technician is not easy, but then again, what is? So, a final word to budding technicians out there: good luck!

Today’s military is not only a powerful organization protecting the world and the country, it is a great way to obtain an impressive education as well as on the job experience. This experience is very important when the soldier leaves the service and enters the private sector because it gives them a leg up on the competition.

There are many career paths a soldier can choose in this modern army: medical, computers, communications, mechanic, pilot, administration, journalist and so many more. Here are a few examples of how the combination of military education and real hands-on experience translates into the private sector career path.

Medic to Doctor

One of the most prized people on the battlefield is the Medic. This person is responsible for maintaining the health, and sometimes the life of every soldier in their unit. This experience, once they leave the military, sets them up for a career in medicine whether it as a doctor, nurse, technician or surgeon they will have the knowledge and the experience to be ready for anything coming their way.

Computers

The modern army is using computers more and more all the time and the complexity of the systems used require some in-depth training for those military personnel who handle the cyber areas of the military. This skill and experience translates into dozens and dozens of possible career possibilities in the private sector. Soldiers who come of the military with heavy computer experience will find that they will be seriously in demand in many areas of business.

Communications

Our military has taken communications to levels previously unheard of, as units are able to communicate with each other through radio, the Internet and via satellite. Taking this communication experience and know how out of the military and into the real world opens doors in communication and networking companies. These companies are constantly expanding and looking for new and strongly skilled employees and the military produces just those people.

Cyber-security

Because computers are all over the world and involved in everything there are people who will always try to disrupt them and take control for nefarious reasons. This is something the military takes very seriously and they have trained cyber soldiers who specialize in network security and protection. Private sector companies, value their data and security as much as anyone else, if not more so, and they are always looking for people with better skills than the hackers they need to defend themselves from.

The military takes normal men and women and turns them into highly trained and motivated soldiers as well as strongly skilled members of a workforce. The skills learned during military service are skills that can carry a person from civilian to soldier and back to a civilian with needed and demanded skills. These skills can help the soldier land a career and be well on their way to a life of accomplishment. The military is not only about creating soldiers, it’s about life after the military and your career opportunities when you cycle back to the world.

The easiest way to keep your translation business profitable is to cultivate a core group of regular clients who will fill your inbox with translation projects, allowing you to spend your time working rather than looking for work. Implementing some of the tips below will help you keep a regular stream of work coming your way.

1. Meet every deadline. If you can’t consistently meet deadlines, you’re not well-suited to being a freelance translator. Remember that your clients have deadlines too, and are sometimes waiting for your work as part of a larger project. As one experienced translator comments, “8:00 means 7:50, not 8:10.”

2. Be easy to reach. Put your contact information in your email signature file, so that a client never has to look up your phone or fax number. Realize that many times, if clients cannot reach you immediately, they will contact another translator. Since over 90% of contacts from clients will be by e-mail, put an auto-responder on your e-mail if you will be out of the office for even a few hours.

3. Follow directions. While it can be time-consuming to follow many different clients’ particular ways of doing things, you will save the client time and money, and thus get more work from them, by following their instructions to the letter. If the client asks you to put your initials in the file name, do it. If the client asks you to put the word “Invoice” in the subject line of the e-mail containing your invoice, do it.

4. Don’t waste your clients’ time. It’s acceptable, and even encouraged to ask questions when you need to clarify something. However, it’s also important to show respect for your clients’ time, and for the fact that yours is probably not the only project they are handling. Keep your e-mails short and to the point, and make your questions clear and easy to answer.

5. Provide referrals. Many translators worry that providing referrals to other translators in the same language combination will lead to less work for themselves, but in fact the opposite seems to be true. Clients like to work with freelancers who solve the clients’ problems, and when you’re too busy and can’t handle their work or are going on vacation, it’s a problem for them. Have the names of two or three translators in your language combination who you really trust, and provide these names to your clients when you aren’t available for work.

6. Be easy to work with. This isn’t to say that you should be a pushover or let clients take advantage of you, but for your regular clients, it’s worth putting in some extra effort. Thank them for giving you their business; be friendly and polite if a payment is unexpectedly late; fill in for them in a pinch when another translator lets them down.

7. Ask for constructive criticism. It’s important to see feedback as part of your quality assurance process, not as an attack on your abilities as a translator. If a client asks for changes in your translation, make them politely and immediately; if you decide later that the changes are unnecessary and you don’t want to work for the client again, it’s another matter. With your regular and trusted clients, periodically ask what you can do to better meet their needs, then implement these changes.

8. Appreciate your clients. Your regular clients are the people who make it possible for you to earn a healthy income while living a flexible and self-directed freelance lifestyle. A small gift at the end of the year is always appreciated when a client has given you regular work.

9. Don’t bicker. If a prospective client offers you a project at a ridiculously low rate, politely decline it, possibly sending them a copy of your standard rate sheet if you have one. Don’t insult them for offering such low pay or make negative comments about their business; just courteously decline to work for them and let them move on to someone else.

10. Charge what you’re worth, and earn it. There will always be another translator out there who is willing to work for one cent per word less than you are, so don’t compete on price alone. Giving your clients a little more effort than necessary proves to them that often, they get the level of service they pay for.

The field of criminal justice is no longer a male-dominated industry. In fact, it is now a booming and nearly recession-proof field that is constantly seeking highly-trained individuals of both gender. The following are descriptions of the many rewarding career options the field of criminal justice has to offer for women.

Law Enforcement:

Opportunities for women exist in law enforcement at local, county, state and federal levels. Whether you want to work patrol, corrections, security or become specialized in some area, law enforcement may be the place for you. State positions are available in the area of highway patrol or the division of criminal intelligence. Federal positions for law enforcement vary within each agency. Such positions are available in the Federal Bureau of Investigations; Border Patrol; Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearm; Secret Service and Homeland Security.

Civilian Support:

Every agency of criminal justice uses civilian support personnel and many of these positions are held by women. Report takers, dispatchers, records specialists, computer information support personnel and radio technicians are the predominate positions held by civilian support.

Court Positions:

Lawyers, victim advocates, domestic violence advocates, paralegals, court reporters and support staff positions are other viable options for women in criminal justice. There are investigative positions for both prosecutors and defense attorneys as well. These positions generally require some prior investigative experience.

Corrections

The field of corrections offers many advantages to women as well. Female correctional officers are needed in any institution that houses females. These can also range from adult to juvenile facilities and maximum to minimum security facilities.

Civilian Positions:

Private security grows each day as more and more agencies are filling in where law enforcement can no longer reach. Large corporations and hospitals often have security/loss prevention positions that offer better hours and advancement opportunities than law enforcement.

Forensic Science

Criminalistics is a field within criminal justice that will continue to grow as technology grows. This field involves advanced crime scene investigating. Arson, handwriting, ballistics, DNA, drug screening and fibers are only a few of the many areas of specialties within the forensic science fields.

When looking at a career in the criminal justice field, women are only as limited as their thinking. Find your passion and follow it, as gender should never stop you from any career you choose.

The Demand

The demand for preschool, kindergarten, elementary, middle and secondary school teachers is projected to grow at an average pace. While the demand for teachers who specialize in math, science and bilingual education is expected to sore.

The Statistics

Employment of school teachers is expected to grow by 12 percent between 2006 and 2016, approximately the average projected growth for all occupations. This growth will create 479,000 new teaching positions.

Through 2016, fast-growing states such as Nevada, Arizona, Texas and Georgia will experience the largest enrollment increases. Enrollment in the Midwest is expected to hold relatively steady, while enrollment the Northeast is expected to decline.

Teachers who are geographically mobile and who obtain licenses in more than one subject should have a distinct advantage in finding a job.

The number of teachers employed is dependent on expenditures for education and on the enactment of legislation to increase the quality and scope of public education. At the federal level, there has been a large increase in funding for education, particularly for the hiring of qualified teachers in lower income areas.

Also, some states are instituting programs to improve early childhood education, such as offering full day kindergarten and universal preschool. These programs, along with projected higher enrollment growth for preschool age children, will create many new jobs for preschool teachers.

Job Prospects

Job opportunities for teachers over the next 10 years will vary from good to excellent, depending on the locality, grade level and subject taught. Most job openings will result from the need to replace the large number of teachers who are expected to retire from 2006 to 2016.

There are some industries where success has little to do with the state of the economy: Medical sales jobs and healthcare sales jobs are definitely among them.

1. The industry

The UK healthcare industry as a whole is worth billions of pounds and employs around 2 million people.

The National Health Service (NHS) is the largest employer, with a workforce of 1.3 million. A further 21% work in the private sector, 1.9% in the voluntary sector and the remainder in local authorities and other organisations.

The pharmaceutical industry employs around 70,000 people. It develops and produces drugs, equipment and products, and is a major provider of medical rep jobs and healthcare sales jobs.

Medical rep jobs play a crucial role in the industry, closing the gap between pharmaceutical companies and healthcare professionals. They ensure clients are aware of, buy and use their company’s pharmaceutical and medical products – whether in general practices, primary care trusts or hospitals.

In terms of jobs in medical sales, the top five leading international pharmaceutical companies in 2007 were Pfizer, GlaxoSmithKline, Sanofi-Aventis, AstraZeneca and Novartis (Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry).

2. The current climate

While more people are now seeking new work, there is a string of industries where success has little to do with the state of the economy. Drugs companies in particular are where investors pile their money to wait out a recession.

Why? Because people need dentists, doctors and other healthcare professionals regardless of the state of the economy – just as they need the right drugs and equipment to make people better. Because when things go wrong they have to be fixed; it’s not discretionary spending. Medical sales jobs and healthcare sales jobs are an integral and invaluable part of this process.

What’s more, skill shortages in the public services sector will always fuel demand for high-calibre professionals – particularly in the drive to find new, more effective drugs to fight disease and in caring for an older population.

3. What medical sales jobs are out there?

The healthcare jobs market is awash with a wide variety of titles and terminology. Some of the most common are healthcare sales jobs, medical sales jobs, medical rep jobs, medical equipment sales, wound care sales jobs, laboratory sales jobs and theatre sales jobs.

While medical rep jobs mostly involve promoting prescription products, successful candidates could find themselves selling anything – from wound care products, surgical tools, implants or large medical devices into large NHS trusts, private hospitals, dentists or even veterinary surgeons.

Opportunities may also occur in related medical sales jobs fields, such as medical disposables and equipment. Additionally, some experienced healthcare sales jobs lead on to working as field trainers – training and developing juniors in healthcare jobs.

Since at least one-third of the pharmaceuticals produced in the UK are exported, there are also international medical sales jobs opportunities.

4. What do recruiters look for?

There are many jobs in medical sales to be found, across a very wide range of specialist areas and geographical locations. Competition for jobs in medical sales can be high, particularly with company mergers and the tightening of finances within the NHS. However, there are lots of ways to stand out from the crowd. Certain attributes that employers look for include:

Individuals who can successfully work as part of a team (medical sales jobs will often involve sharing territory)

Graduates or trainees, or individuals with nursing, marketing or ethical sales experience

Candidates with a science degree (approximately 50% of the 9,000 medical sales reps in the UK have one; the other 50% are mainly graduates from other academic disciplines)

Experience in selling to the medical market, or a medical background

At SalesTarget.co.uk, there are a huge range of healthcare jobs and medical sales jobs for you to explore, spanning all skills and sectors.

Day-by-day, humans are becoming more and more dependent on electricity. New technological innovations bring more and more electrical appliances. It will not be wrong to say that humans will go back to their Stone Age, without electricity. In such a situation an electrician can have a lucrative career as an electrician. But for that, one must complete a proper electrical course. Most of the countries are currently facing a shortage of qualified electrician. So the demand for an electrical course is growing fast.

An eye checkup done before joining an electrical course is better, if you have any eye site problems. Work of an electrician includes a lot of physical work like climbing walls, high polls, and roofs. An aspirant electrician must see that he/she doesn’t have any major health problems. Some serious health problem like high blood pressure or neurological disorders can make work of an electrician more dangerous. Electricians are a very important part of our society. It is ideal for people doing just for the sake of knowledge or personal use. All those who are working somewhere else, and don’t have the time to join a class room course can also enroll for an online electrical course.

But if you are looking at this profession as a serious career option, then you need to join a full time dedicated electrical course. There are many institutes and colleges offering electrical courses. Before enrolling for an electrical course, the reputation and affiliation of that college must be taken into consideration.

by Trevor Davide Grant

The amount of salary one makes throughout their lifetime career and the subsequent lifestyle and quality of life as a result of that income depends a lot on the amount of salary a person negotiates before their first day on the job.

This might be considered whether it is your first job out of university or if it’s a mid-life job change. Further, there are financial impacts when you are in your career working for an employer that you are very happy with, of not negotiating your salary with the best timing.

During your career, you may earn pay raises and job advances within the company that you work for, but when the company offers regularly scheduled increases, as many companies do, the impact of your starting salary with that employer is significant.

This is not only applicable to your first salary negotiation and subsequent incremental pay raises but also to salary differentials you may get when you changes roles within a company. You may switch into a job requiring significantly increased duties, effort, or responsibilities, and the salary you had earned beforehand can genuinely influence the starting salary at the new job.

Take a person starting a career as a system analyst in a high tech company somewhere in the United States, as an example. Say that person begins with a starting salary of $45,000. Most likely that person will have to dedicate at least 6 months to one full year before they are offered their first raise. Suppose it is a 10% raise which would be A LOT in most businesses. That person would gain an additional $4500 yearly based on that raise.

Suppose that same person started at $55,000 or more. That same pay hike of 10% would provide the same employee $5500 additional salary per year. With the first salary band, the employee would still be under the $50,000 mark after one full year of effort and after a 10% pay increase, while in the second situation the employee would be at over $60,000 a year after a 10% pay increment.

Now analyze the compound repercussion of these two starting salaries on the individuals earning potential. First let’s examine a 4 year timeline, all other things being equal (that is, suggesting no pay increases and no job advances). The person earning $45K will have earned $180K in total salary in 4 years. The person earning $55K will have earned $220K in 4 years. That is a $40K difference just based on where the employee started in terms of negotiated compensation.

Introduce a ten percent raise after year 1 and consider the impact as the person moves through their career. The person with a most salary in the beginning will always be ahead of the person with the lower starting salary, all things being equal (i.e. identical job, identical job performance). The person with the higher salary will be getting ahead faster than the person starting with the lower salary. This impact multiplies with each coming year assuming the same annual percentage pay raise for each.

When negotiating a pay raise, if an employee earning $50,000 earns a 5% raise without negotiating anything extra, that might acceptable. Now consider the impact if the person gets a 15% pay raise because they have been a superstar in the job and they have all the supporting market facts and a performance record to justify it. That employee will have negotiated compensation – $7,500 in an increase versus just accepting $2500. Project that 10 years into the future, and there is a blatant $50,000 impact on the person’s earnings.

Many experts suggest that it is better to try negotiating a raise or an improvement to the compensation package than to simply receive the package that is offered. The first offer is often the lowest offer and can be improved with salary negotiation. This negotiation must be done with care and must be well based with a supporting case for the difference.

One must also analyze factors such as market, corporate guidelines, and personal performance. However when done well, it can really pay off. Remember to consider the value of all factors of compensation when asking for a raise. Some people truly value free time, their quality of life, while others are willing to take a chance and maybe accept stock options in lieu of pay.

However, when it comes to negotiating, don’t be afraid to consider asking for more.

If you have a business approach which is people-friendly and focuses on your customers’ needs, your clients’ pleasure will be sufficient motivation for your employees to keep up their good work. It would be best to start from the very beginning. There is no way you can inspire them if you do not teach them the fundamentals of business. To ensure that their basics are aright, you have to promise them sufficient financial incentives. Also make sure the conditions of work and atmosphere within the office are conducive to a healthy working environment. How can you be sure of this? Just ask your employees if they like the situation and implement whatever changes they suggest in order to motivate them.

Besides the overall working environment and conditions, there is another area which you should ensure is pleasant to your employees. Find out if they like working there, how they feel when they interact with other employees who are in a higher position, etc. You should encourage your employees to have an open, trusting relationship with you (the boss) and other employees. No one should feel uncomfortable while in the office, this is a very basic fact. If relationships between employees are strained, they won’t feel motivated.

It is extremely important that all nitty-gritty is sorted out to establish a smooth working environment. Since this is your company, it is your job to ensure that your employees have the optimum conditions to give their best to the job. You should interact with them in a personal level. Knowing that the boss actually cares about how each one works will stimulate them to work harder and better. After all the basics of the job have been settled, make sure that you allow your employees to give you their feedback about the changes in the office. Just take it slowly, taking up one issue at a time. Hurrying through the business will not work.

After getting the general things sorted out, it is time to connect on a personal level with your employees. Talk to each and learn more about their personalities, what they like about the work they do, their preferences, their strong points. This personal interest will motivate them no end.

Do not let your employees get stagnated in their jobs as this is the surefire way to demoralize them. They will feel that no one appreciates them for their creativity and potential. You should give your employees tasks which challenge them intellectually and creatively. Excite them, and thus motivate them as they look forward to a challenge at work every day. In order to satisfy the wants of your employees, you should ask them what kind of work they want to do, and what they think will be enough of a challenge for them. Every person will respond differently to your personal interactions with them, so you need to notice how you interact with each. You could also try raft-building, paint-balling and away-days to engender team spirit and motivation.
