			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>It is the first question we ask when we meet someone new. And it is the last question we want to be asked when we are out of work: “What do you do?”. It is a strange quirk of our society that we define ourselves first and foremost by the work we do. Being unemployed can leave us feeling out-of-place and uncomfortable, and can even lead to avoidance of social gatherings and, therefore, networking opportunities.</p>
<p>I’ve interviewed a lot of people who find being out of a job a real social challenge. This is particularly the case amongst those who are in their 40s or 50s and have only had one or two jobs. People in this group have often defined themselves both by their career and by the company they used to work for; leaving a long-term job can be a double-whammy and a real blow to the confidence.</p>
<p>But there are ways to deal with this awkward situation, and even to turn it to your advantage. Here are five ideas:</p>
<p><strong>Get creative </strong></p>
<p>A good way to lighten the situation is to be creative in the way that you describe your situation. There are the old favourites like ‘between jobs’ and ‘extended break’. But perhaps you can come up with a fresher approach. ‘Mr. Mum’ (where relevant), ‘my own boss’, ‘dealing with a mid-life crisis’ or ‘studying poverty’.</p>
<p><strong>Be honest</strong></p>
<p>If you are honest about your situation you might be surprised where the conversation goes. Many of us have a perception that we are the only person to have been made redundant, when in fact most people will lose their job at some point in their career. So explaining that you are an out-of-work accountant might prompt a frank &#8211; and useful &#8211; sharing of experiences.</p>
<p><strong>Focus on your skills</strong></p>
<p>Remember that conversations like this are, in fact, networking opportunities. You never know how the person you are talking to might be able to help you. So rather than simply saying that you are an unemployed engineer, see if you can drop some of your skills and experience into the conversation. ‘Project management’, ‘advanced computer skills’, ‘mechanical wizard’. This makes it easier for the person you are talking to recognise how you might fit into an opportunity they are aware of.</p>
<p><strong>Be open to new ideas</strong></p>
<p>A trick to effective job search is to open your mind to a broader range of opportunities. We can easily get stuck on finding another job very similar to the one we have left, but this is very limiting. So steer the conversation to what other people do, how their industry works, what other sorts of people they work with. Any of these things could prompt a possibility in your mind.</p>
<p><strong>Talk about other stuff</strong></p>
<p>If you’ve really had enough job talk, then simply steer the conversation in another direction. “I’m not working at the moment, but I did go to the football on Saturday. Do you follow football?”. “I’m unemployed, so I’m going to lots of movies. Have you seen the latest Star Trek?”. Or get your new acquaintance to talk about themselves &#8211; most people like doing that.</p>
<p>When you’re job hunting, any opportunity to tell others about your situation is a chance to gain some information or to make a useful connection. Networking like this leads many people into new jobs. So whatever you do, don’t avoid social situations. Rather, keep experimenting until you find a comfortable way of describing your situation.</p>

It’s a powerful tool to reach out to your industry in a new and credible way.  Follow these steps and  you’ll be one step closer to making strong connections to employers and industry recruiters on LinkedIn.</p>
<p><strong>Step 1<br />Complete Your Profile</strong><br />Your profile is like your online resume, only better, because people can endorse your work right on your profile.  If you haven’t fully completed your profile, you aren’t giving anyone enough information to determine if you are a person they would want to share networks with.  You are asking for people to open their rolodex to you, so to speak.  You must have a complete profile that shows them you are worthy networking partner.</p>
<p><u>Profile description with personality</u> – this is the place where you need to sell yourself. Think “cover letter meets 30 second elevator pitch.” </p>
<p><u>List all positions</u> – Listing all your past positions allows the system to find more people who you may already know or who have a workplace or school in common.  LinkedIn suggests people to network with based on information in your profile.</p>
<p><u>Education</u> – For the same reason, list all the schools you attended.  It may seem silly to list your high school in a resume, but LinkedIn is different.  Since it uses this information to help bring people together, it’s important to include everything.  You never know where your fellow classmates ended up that may help your career.</p>
<p><u>Recommendations</u> – Endorsements are always important.  LinkedIn is no exception.  Ask people from each sector of your worklife to endorse the work you did when they knew you.  Make sure you get clients, bosses, employees, vendors, etc.</p>
<p><u>Link to Website</u> – You can provide up to 3 websites that relate to your work, either an online resume or your website if you have one, or one that you worked on.</p>
<p><u>SEO your profile</u> – Always think “keywords, keywords, keywords” in everything you do online.  Make sure you that are using the same words when you write your profile that someone would use to search for someone like you.</p>
<p><u>LinkedIn Applications </u>- Utilize the applications that are relevant, integrating blogs, presentations, etc.</p>
<p><strong>Step 2<br />Reach Out – Build Your Network</strong><br />When you make a first level connection with someone, it means you know them directly.  When you connect with someone, you gain a broader reach than just that person because all of the people that they know are now part of your network as 2nd level connections.  Similarly, all of the second level’s connections now become your third level connections.  What all this means is that you can exponentially grow your network by making smart connections to people you already know or strategic people in your industry.  </p>
<p>Building your network is helpful if you want to ask an industry question to your connections.  Your entire network is posed the question, so the more people you are connected to the more brains you are reaching.  When you get ready to search jobs, the broader your network is, the greater your access to jobs posted by your network.</p>
<p><u>Connect to people you already know</u> &#8211; Import your address book to see who you know that is already on LinkedIn.  Reach out to colleagues, friends, classmates, vendors, etc.</p>

<p><strong>Step 5<br />Request Introductions</strong><br />When you are ready, you can request an introduction to someone in a company that either has an opening, or one that you wish you target.  Professionally request the introduction, letting them know why it would benefit the receiver to know you, so the referrer feels confident in making the introduction.  Make sure you have something to contribute. If it’s all about you, there is a chance your request will be ignored.    Once the introduction has been made, be sure to thank the referrer.  Make contact with the person and show them why connecting with you is a great career move for you both.  </p>

<p>All teens want to make extra money to buy the latest iphone, go to the movies, party, the latest clothes fashion, etc… but what will make you stand out compared to the other teens who want the same job?</p>
<p>Tenacity. Your level of tenacity will be based on how hungry you are for tha particular job.</p>
<p>What&#8217;s the main way to show your potential employer that you really really &#8220;want&#8221; the job?</p>
<p>How do you show your potential employer that you are the best person out of all other applicants that will complete his current staff or crew?</p>
<p>Before we answer that, you should know that the potential employer sees hundreds, yes hundreds, of applications each month so you have to be the one to stand out among the rest. </p>
<p>Here’s the answer. It&#8217;s all in your behavior. </p>
<p>What does that mean? It simply means that that the person who shows the most enthusiasm and persistence with a positive attitude and willing to take a proactive approach is usually the winner.</p>
<p>Think about it this way, if you were the employer and wanted to hire a good team member to fit in with the rest of your crew and you had to choose from 100 people that filled out an application, but only one of those people filled out several job applications over a few weeks and constantly came in to follow up with the hiring person, would this potential candidate stand out to you?</p>

Some people suffer from stress related ailments such as hypertension and some die due to various diseases such as heart failure. Yes, a job brings in the necessary income for us to sustain ourselves, to put a plate of food on the table. But do we really have to go through the pains and agony of diseases in order to survive?   Many employees particularly in large corporations and government institutions still believe that the jobs they hold are “jobs for life.”  They are oblivious of the current economic meltdown in spite of the signs written all over that the economies of the world are at a down turn. They bring unnecessary stress to their immediate supervisors.</p>
<p>The following are the signs to look for that will tell you whether your workforce is suffering from the entitlement mentality syndrome:</p>
<ul>
<li>They are mostly under qualified</li>
<li>They are lazy and operate at their own pace and show no sense of urgency</li>
<li>They produce poor quality of work</li>
<li>They are wasteful in terms of using company resources</li>
<li>They play truant from their work stations for long periods without informing their supervisors</li>
<li>They pretend to be busy even after finishing the work they have been allocated</li>
<li>They are negative to  management</li>
<li>They bad mouth and gossip about their colleagues and supervisors</li>
<li>They  do not hesitate to rush to their unions at a slightest provocation</li>
<li>They  will tell you about their rights</li>
<li>They  will remind you about how long they have been employed by the company</li>
<li>They advocate for automatic promotion based on their years of service</li>
<li>They hate interviews and regard them as a waste of time</li>
<li>They are spiteful of external candidates</li>
<li> They  arrive late at work and when reprimanded gets very angry</li>
<li>They are the last to arrive and the first to leave</li>
<li>They always take longer tea and lunch breaks</li>
<li>They always take sick leave and conveniently extend their weekends</li>
</ul>
<p>These are employees who will not tell you about their contribution to the company or the company bottom line they increased and the projects they have initiated and successfully completed. They have no trust in themselves and they do not know and understand their strengths. They do not know the vision, goals and objectives of the company all what they care about is a pay cheque at the end of the month. These are the time wasters who visit other colleagues’ work stations to chat about weekend sports activities, it is during these discussions where innocent employees are recruited and turned against management. It is this group of people who complain the loudest when bonuses are paid based on performance results.</p>
<p> When you notice any of these signs from your employees, act fast and remove the employee or employees in question, who show any of these signs before they poison and contaminate your whole workforce.</p>

While writing resume remember that there is no extra credit given for correct spelling, grammar or punctuation today. A simple mistake can take your resume to the waste paper basket. Proofreading and double-checking the final copy is very important. Edit your work twice. Make sure that the recruitment manager or HR of a company is not the first one to go through the finished product. Have someone else read it first.</p>
<p>Most of the people have a misconception about the purpose of a resume. The purpose of a resume is not to get you a job but to give the employers enough idea about you so that they call you for the interview.
