It’s a crunch time for graduating seniors entering the workforce. It’s a tough time for graduates to find a fitful job nowadays.
The tough economy has worsened some students concerning for their career plans. Someone said that “It’s scary for the simple fact you don’t know how many openings a place may have or if you’re going to be everything that that company needs”.
The employment rate for graduates last year was less than 70% and the rising number seeking jobs is challenging the Chinese government at a time when the current economic crisis will surely exacerbate the problem. This issue is much wore this year. Employment in China has plummeted. Fewer positions are available for graduates and graduate employment will be limited in this year and for the next few years. Although many companies cannot find qualified employees working in specific technical fields, many Chinese graduates have majored in accounting, Chinese language and literature, law and computer science, whereas jobs in these fields are limited. It is likely close to 2 million graduates will be hideously unemployment- many of whom are postgraduates, even doctoral graduates.
Several factors are responsible for the dire situation facing graduates and the massive expansion of enrolments since 1999 is one issue. In 1999, the government stimulated domestic demand by increasing higher education enrolments to answer negative influence by the Asian financial crisis that began in 1997. Now the graduates with great amount of education investment become the poor victim of the increasing education enrolments.
The modernization of China’s economy and the opening of its markets have brought wealth, but at the cost of unemployment for many. Because of the rat race in such a society with stagnant economic, some students only with senior middle school diploma have to be a young work in factories in order to be one of the technically skilled workers. They think that they’d better earn money early than to be a would-be unemployment man with high diploma or experienced major skills. People take their jobs more seriously and are very loyal to their employers in such a competitive society with strong impact by this financial crisis.
Fewer positions are available for graduates and graduate employment will be limited in this year and for the next few years. What it will going on about the job issue of Chinese graduates?
Unemployed workers seem to be staying with friends in local apartments. Unemployed graduates find jobs such as workers in factories and salesmen, or they even polish shoes for others like so illiterate one. “I just want a job — no demands on salary” What a helpless claim! A report said that a girl in job fair kneel to one of the recruiter in Guangdong. Graduates choose suicide as their ending for life is not a new news now. What a cruel fact for our graduates!
Measures such as expanding postgraduate enrolments cannot solve the problem of graduate unemployment as it can only offer some relief or postpone the current employment pressure. Indeed, in recent years, employment of master degree graduates has become problematic. How it will go on if unemployed graduates become graduate student three years later?

This newsletter goes out to about 500 people each month. Many of you may question why this topic would be of interest since you have a good job and appear to be pretty safe and stable in it. However, according to recent studies 400 of the 500 people reading this will have a new job in the next five years. So this is a very relevant topic for most people.

I am currently working with several people as they go through a career transition (translation – out of work and looking for a job). As we explore options and help them focus on the future, there are some interesting facts about the job market that everyone should be aware of. In my generation, a job was defined as working for a large company, like IBM, Dupont, or Ford. Our vision was that we could get a nice salary, great benefits, a comfortable retirement and all we had to do was work hard and progress steadily up the corporate ladder.

Here are some realities of the current job market:

- The average person entering the work force today will have between 10 and 14 jobs by the time they are age 39. This is driven by a rapidly changing business environment that sees companies come and go much more frequently than ever in the past.

- Only 2.6 percent of jobs in the U.S. are with companies that employ more than 99 people. A person who equates a job with working for a large organization is severely limiting options in the future.

- The top ten jobs that will be in demand in 2010 did not exist in 2004. Technology, world markets, and population demographics are creating new jobs every day. The problem is finding people with the right skills and personal characteristics to handle the new jobs.

So to prepare for your next career transition, here are some things you can do now to be prepared:

1. Build a network. Only 12 percent of positions that are available are advertised. Most are filled through word-of-mouth and networking. Get to know people, particularly those who own their own businesses. Show genuine interest in their business.

I never thought I would say this, but take advantage of social networking web sites like Facebook or Twitter to meet additional people. If you don’t believe in the power of this, it took 30 years for radio to reach 50 million people, 20 years for TV to reach 50 million people, and 2 years for Facebook to reach 50 million people.

2. Upgrade your skills constantly. You have to be technologically savvy in today’s world. If you are in a profession that has declining demand, then it may be time to consider getting additional education through local technical colleges or even through online training programs.

3. Get healthy. The number of jobs that provide full health care benefits is declining and will continue to do so. There is a good chance that your next job will not have as good of benefits as the one you left. The best way to lower you medical costs is to live a healthy life style.

4. Explore self employment opportunities. A recent estimate said that around 60 percent of households in the U.S. have some form of business operating out of the home. While on the surface self employment may seem to be the least secure form of employment, it may actually be the best way to achieve long term stability and security. Having been self employed for ten years, there is no way that I could see myself back in a corporate job.

Being self employed doesn’t necessarily mean that you will make more money and spend less time at work. In reality you will probably make less money and spend more time, but the rewards of being in control of your own destiny can outweigh these.

5. Get your finances house in order. The reason that many people get stressed during times of career transition is that they have failed to plan for an interruption in income and benefits. They are one missed paycheck away from financial ruin. Make a plan that assumes that you will miss three months pay in the next three years. What would you do? It is amazing how much money we routinely spend on stuff that we could do without during a true crunch.

As you read this, I hope that you are one of the hundred that won’t have to face a career transition, but is it worth taking the chance? Time spent preparing now will lessen the impact if it actually happens.

If you are new to Toronto, looking for a job or have recently been laid off, Toronto recruiters are the people to meet. Having a wide portfolio of experience linking potential clients with job seekers, all at a nominal fee. After an initial consultation, either over the telephone, via email or in person, they will assess your specific job needs, and ascertain whether you qualify to work in Toronto or not. Most organizations offer jobs to Canadian citizens or Permanent Residents only, and others have second language, typically French, requirements, Once the recruiter assesses whether you qualify for the main categories, they will inquire about your educational background, previous experience, and job description, references, expected salary and so on. They may also do some research and get back to you typically after a few days to present a portfolio of potential employers whose needs match with yours. After you select a few, they will make the appointments with them, and if all goes well, a certain commission (either a fixed percentage of the salary or another pre-decided amount) is paid to the recruiter. The advantage of hiring the services of a professional recruiter is that they have done their homework and have access to the latest on the job circuit, current trends, which areas are currently seeking employers and which are in recession. They provide in-depth, accurate and useful information for both job seekers and those requiring employees for their firms. They are a one-stop shop for all job needs.

Here are some tips for a job interview that will help you come out of the process on top. When you walk into a job interview, the product you are selling is YOU. In order to successfully sell yourself, you must market your personal brand. That is, you must build a reputation that qualifies you, and only you, to successfully fulfill the job requirements. The job interview is your time to shine – your time to sell yourself and your abilities. In order to do that, you must have faith in your personal brand. That’s what separates you from the rest of the candidates for your desired position. If you can do so successfully, you will be well on your way to landing the job of your dreams.

The successful job interview process begins when you accept the interview, and ends when the employer decides to hire you. The more you are able to communicate professionalism with personality, distinction and skill, the better your chance of getting the job.

15 Sure-fire Ways to a Successful Job Interview:

Before the interview:

Use the 3 P’s – Plan, Prepare, and Practice.

1. Prepare for the interview; research the company and prepare questions based on your research.

2. Do mock interviews in order to prepare for all questions, especially uncomfortable ones.

3. Dress professionally even if the company dress code is business casual.

4. Arrive early! (12 – 15 minutes before the interview)

At the interview:

5. Give your interviewer a firm handshake. A powerful handshake and a genuine smile will get you off to a good start.

6. Beware of your Body Language; sit erect, stand and walk with confidence, lean forward toward the interviewer.

7. Build rapport – use powerful, effective communication techniques. Take charge of the encounter without being overbearing.

8. Be a good listener. Answer only what’s asked, in a brief but effective manner.

9. Show enthusiasm and sincere interest. Don’t act desperate.

10. Take notes. You may need to refer to them later in the interview.

11. Communicate your skills, qualifications, credentials and the benefits you offer.

12. Demonstrate your accomplishments; how you improve sales, reduce cost, improve productivity, solve organizational problems. In short, demonstrate why you’re good for the organization’s bottom line.

13. Make eye contact. It demonstrates confidence, trust, and power.

14. If you want the position, ask for it – directly.

After the interview:

15. Send a follow-up thank you letter. The letter should state what interests you about the position, why you are suitable for the job, and your appreciation for the interviewer’s time.

The Top 10 Interview Questions

According to a recent survey by ResumeDoctor.com, the following are the 10 most frequently asked questions in interviews:

1. Describe your ideal job/boss.

2. Why are you looking for a job? or Why are you leaving your current position?

3. What unique experiences or qualifications separate you from other candidates?
4. Tell me about yourself.

5. What are your strengths and weaknesses?

6. Describe a time when you were faced with a challenging situation and how you handled it. It’s almost guaranteed that you will be asked this question.

7. What are your short-term/long-term goals?

8. What are some of your strengths in dealing with people?

9. What are your salary requirements?

10. Why are you interested in this position? Our company?

Young and talented professionals today are largely interested in hotel jobs, as their future career. There is a wide range of career opportunities in this particular field, which you might not know of. Although quite often we visit hotels, but we never get to interact with many of the professionals there. Ranging from the job of a waiter to the senior management jobs, you can quite easily acquire the job that you desire.

However, the job title that you deserve will obviously be determined by your qualification, understanding, and the overall know-how of the field, along with your skill, aptitude as well as experience in the related field and so forth.

The Hotel business is becoming demanding increasingly, it can now be regarded as an established profession to be in hotel. There are two major categories of jobs that exist in this profession which include front-end and back-end jobs, however one thing that is mandatory for both these categories is that the employee is ought to have outstanding communication, and people management adeptness and skill.

Some of the most common job titles that we all are aware of generally are : the bar tenders, receptionist, bell-boy, the waiters and so on. However, the white-collar jobs or the jobs that lie in the higher category in terms of job title, salary and status are the managerial jobs which are referred to as the back-end jobs since we never get to associate with these professionals.

A number of significant jobs in the managerial area include:

The general manager; as the job title suggests general manager of hotels has an on the whole liability for the functioning of the entire hotel’s tasks. a few of the responsibilities consist of supervision of the entire hotel staff very closely, establishing budgets for all departments of the hotel, deciding upon the charges for the hotel services, keeping a close check on the everyday expenditure, and making sure that the values and regulations of the hotel are sustained effectively.

Resident Manager; often to assist the general manager a Resident manager is also hired, so that together they can effectively look over the functioning of the hotel.

You can not open the newspaper or watch a news broadcast without being aware of how many Americans are losing their jobs. As devastating as this can be how you handle it is very important for both your financial security and peace of mind. If you follow some of the steps below hopefully we can make a very difficult time a little easier.

How to: Handle Job Loss

First, make sure you collect all of the wages that are owed to you by your former employer. Not just your salary, but any vacation and sick pay owed to you should be collected. If you were promised a bonus or are owed commissions make sure you collect those also. Don’t let the employer intimidate you.

Advice about: Landing Perfect Job

Second, check into your health insurance to see how you can take advantage of COBRA. It is now more important than ever to make sure you have coverage in case of an emergency. Going to the doctor or the hospital without insurance, could cost you all of your savings.

Next, check with your states unemployment to see if you are eligible. If you are fill out the forms as soon as possible so you can receive your first check quickly. The basic amount of time for unemployment is 26 weeks. But now with the high rate of unemployment extensions are being given. Make sure you check all of your options.

In addition, don’t be embarrassed many people are losing their jobs today through no fault of their own. Tell people, talk about it. Don’t isolate yourself. You never know when you are talking to someone they may know of a position for you.

Lastly, take this opportunity to evaluate what you want to do with the rest of your life. This a perfect time to consider starting your own business. Many folks are looking to online home businesses. Even if at first it is only part time it can grow into a full time profitable endeavor. Most important, don’t get down on yourself, keep a positive attitude and think of this whole experience as a new beginning.

Do you feel you are underpaid? Do you think your company is benefiting from you much more than what it is paying in return? Do you think that your efforts at the job are unrewarded? Do you think you truly deserve a salary raise? If the answer to all these questions is ‘Yes’, all you need to do is ask. However, this might be the most difficult asking that you might have to do in your life (other than proposing to someone to get married to you). You need to do a lot of preparation before you can ask your employer or your boss for a salary hike. There would be a natural resistance from your boss to give you the raise because that means shelling out more for getting the same services from you that he is already enjoying at a lower salary. Therefore, you need to present your case in a manner that your boss is also convinced that you deserve the raise that you have asked for.

Here are a few tips that would help you successfully negotiate a pay hike with your employer.

Fix a meeting with your reporting manager

Just ask your boss or reporting manager for some time to review your work and performance. Do not say that the purpose of the meeting is salary hike. Your meeting request might just get rejected if you ask this. And even if the boss agrees, he/she would be well-prepared to turn down your request of a salary raise. Thus, just seek an appointment to discuss your work and go prepared. This would be the most critical meeting as your salary hike would depend on how well you are prepared to sell your argument.

Go for the meeting fully prepared

Since it is a critical meeting, you wouldn’t want to go for it unprepared. Don’t just go for it on an ad-hoc basis and take it as it comes. Before going for the meeting, prepare a list of all possible questions, all tentative answers and all the arguments that you are going to put across. Also, have knowledge of the average salaries in your role for your experience. If you have friends in the industry working in similar positions, talk to them to gather real information. Otherwise, there are many salary tools available online that help you get a fair idea of what your salary should be. Prepare notes of all these things and take print-outs, if required. This way, you will have a strong case to ask for the raise that you want.

Deserve what you desire

No boss is going to give you a raise just because you want it. So, it’s time for some introspection. Ask yourself a few questions from the perspective of your boss. Analyze your achievements, what they mean for the company that you are working with, your competencies, the amount of workload on you, your level of commitment towards the job and more such questions. Are you better than other members of the team? Do you have that willingness to put in extra? If you are asking for a salary hike, you must truly deserve it in your own eyes and from the perspective of the boss too. The best time to ask for a salary raise would be when you have shown consistently good performance over a remarkable period of time. This will give you enough number of reasons to justify the hike that you are asking for.

Sell yourself well

The meeting would be nothing like selling your competencies and convincing the boss to buy in your strengths. Be ready with all the evidences to demonstrate that you are worth the hike you are asking for. Translate your work into numbers, if possible. This means try to gauge the impact of your work on the revenue that the company generated and present it in that way. Talk about the increased revenue and how your contribution was critical to it. Go with a well prepared document or presentation that you refer to at all points so that you don’t forget anything.

What if your boss doesn’t budge?

Go prepared with the possibility that your request might get rejected. What then? Your boss may refuse to give you a salary hike for some genuine reasons too. There might be a company policy for that year or there might be an economic slowdown. How do you go about it then? Be ready with a back-up plan and ask for non-monetary benefits to reward your performance. Ask for a promotion on the same salary or an assurance of a hike within a given time. You could also ask for upgrading your skills by some training.

So, these are some tips that might help you get a salary hike even in a difficult economy. Ultimately, what you get would depend solely on your capability and your ability to convince your boss.

Are you a fresher just passed out of university or university and looking jobs for freshers, it is a heavy time for your to land up in your first job. As the world economies is in down turn across the world, firms around the globe cut cost and as part of cost control cutting jobs, hold income increments and perks.

Many companies stop the hiring process or there’s each small hiring. As there is very few opening for freshers, only few colleges across the nation may be able to place their scholars in jobs where as most of the university across the nation fail to draw in corporations to their campuses. Companies that already visited schools campuses in past decline to visit schools to sign up freshers citing the economy melting and company policy to not recruit freshers or company policy to hold on recruitment of freshers for jobs.

Freshers who already given offer letters by companies in campus hiring are waiting to get call from corporations to join for months. So in this market scenario, freshers need new approach towards jobs for freshers. And there’s need for change in their big dream about beginning their career with important people in the company world and with hand full of salary.

When you search jobs for freshers, do not look in to income look in to the job role offered to you and career the job fetches you in the near future. Many freshers have the attitude of comparing their income package with the income packages offered to the university seniors in the campus hiring as well as in the campus. Don’t do such comparison as those times are different from current economy situation.

In this current job marketplace situation you want a different approach towards jobs for freshers and your expectancy toward your first job. As there’s less jobs for freshers in massive corporations which often use to hire fair number of freshers, the freshers have to look in to other avenue like tiny firms, start up and other new layer who offer you fresher job which challenging job roles and various job responsibility to start your career and eventually the experience that you gained in that job will help to get a dream job in the future.

Till some time back, creativity could not really help a person draw a monthly salary but these days scenario is completely different. Now one can easily give a vent to his / her creativity and take home a handsome pay packet. The booming animation market has opened newer avenues for all those who have a thing for painting and drawing.

The art of animation, a creative field which was earlier dominated by the West, has now India running as one of the most serious competitors. While cartoons are illustrations of a single diagram with varied meanings and expressions, animation is a rapid display of 2-D or 3-D images to create an illusion of motion.

In India, there are several career institutes offering Animation and Cartoon Courses. These career courses involve exhaustive career training for the job requirements in the field of animation and cartoons.

Cartoon Courses and Animation Institutes in India:

There are various colleges in India that offer specialized courses in animation and cartoons. These institutes help those who have a creative bent of mind and want to to earn a living from that. Some of the colleges are:

National Institute of Design (NID, Ahmedabad)

J.J School of Arts

Zee Institute of Creative Arts (ZICA)

Industrial Design Center (IDC), IIT – Mumbai & Guwahati

Academy of Animation and Gaming

Admec Multimedia Institute, Delhi

Arena Animation, Delhi

Jamia Millia Islamia, Delhi

Maya Academy of Advanced Cinematics, Mumbai

Aptech Computer Education, Mumbai

Zee Institute of Media Arts, Mumbai

Asian Institute of Gaming and Animation, Bangalore

Ants Animation Training School, Bangalore

Image Institute of Digital Technology, Bangalore

SAE Technology College, Chennai

Pivot Animation, Chennai

Artlab College, Chennai

Raymax Multimedia, Chennai

Brainware Computer Academy, Kolkata,

Digital Asia School of Animation, Kolkata

Animaster – The Animation Varsity, Kolkata

Micro Pro Institute, Kolkata

Sumeru Academy of Digital Arts, Pune

Indian Academy of Digital Arts, Pune

Tilak Maharashtra University, Pune

Image College of Arts, Animation & Technology, Hyderabad

Picasso Animation College, Hyderabad

Palette School of Multimedia, Hyderabad

For those who are looking for graduation courses in animation and cartoons, there are many colleges offering both diploma and degree courses. But for those looking for post graduate courses, options are very rare. Among the colleges that have been mentioned above, the Industrial Design Centers in Mumbai and Guwahati offer post-graduate degree courses.

Basic qualification required: All those who want to pursue a cartoon and animation course, there is a basic minimum qualification required. Like for applying for a diploma course in animation, one should have passed the 12th standard examination from any recognized board with a minimum of 45% marks. For those who are looking for a bachelor’s degree program, the same eligibility criterion is relevant, while for the PG program, one must have a bachelor’s degree from any university or institute.

Benefits of these courses: As one can see that the animation & multimedia industry is growing rapidly, pursuing a course in these fields can definitely push your career. Moreover, if you have a flair for drawing or creating characters, a course in this field would help satisfy your creative spirits.

Prospects of these courses in India:

Of late, animation in India has witnessed a remarkable boom with Indian animations catering to the needs of several private and public sectors and indigenously produced animated films all over the world.

There are various T.V programs, advertisements / commercials and computer games that demand a huge quantity of manpower from the Indian market. Besides that, animation is used for creating special effects in films or in web entertainment programs. Thus, the scope for aspiring students of animation is vast in the context of the rising Indian animation market.

Scope of animation students in foreign countries: Though cartoons and animations don’t really seem to be products meant for outsourcing, yet Indian cartoonists and animators have begun working for foreign companies. Undoubtedly, Indian companies are moving ahead of their South East Asian counterparts in this field. The western countries are also favoring India over any other country as far as animation is concerned because of the following reasons:

    * Good command over English speaking skills

    * Cost to company (CTC) advantage

Career search engines have taken job hunting to a whole new level. Back in the day, job hopefuls had to make a personal appearance just to submit their resume. They had to look at the classified ads section of the paper to find out which companies had an opening or what kinds of jobs were available. Even then, not everything was listed.

When the Internet technology boomed, career search engines were set up to make life easier for both the applicants and their potential employers. It’s the perfect set up for both parties, especially now that there are millions of fresh graduates and job seekers looking for a job every year. Still don’t have much faith in career search engines? Well, you’ll soon have a change of heart after you read this article.

Careerbuilder.com

Build it and they will come. CareerBuilder.com certainly knew and used this adage well. This particular career search engine is one of the first to set up such a business back in 1995 and has served as a good basis for other career search engines all over the world.

Registering here is easy and hassle free. And since CareerBuilder.com has been around for a while, there is more game there. Aside from providing companies with applicants and vice-versa, CareerBuilder.com has also expanded their services to a more applicant-friendly level.

There are useful articles on employment and career building, a comprehensive salary calculator, job description, and even career quizzes for the curious.

Monster.com

Contrary to the name, registering at Monster.com isn’t a terrifying experience. Unlike most career search engines, this particular Web site has a friendlier and more sophisticated layout. There aren’t a dizzying number of links to distract you from your ultimate goal of finding a job that matches your skills.

At the moment, they have a trial service called Career Mapping which allows applicants to sort out where they want their careers to go. Monster.com definitely isn’t interested in a one shot deal. Their services prove that they’re there for you in the long run.

Yahoo! HotJobs

Another well recommended career search engine is Yahoo! HotJobs. Being a world-renowned company does have its perks!

Aside from the usual services and links offered by similar career sites, Yahoo! HotJobs makes the list because of the site’s Question and Answer section. The Web site has made good use of its Yahoo! Answers technology which allows users from different parts of the world to respond to a particular question or to post one of their own. As a registered user or even just as a lurker, you get to hear what real people have to say about real situations.

Career search engines have taken over the job hunting industry. Sure, classified ads still have some importance, but everything is high tech now. Companies also want the convenience of having a resume automatically sent to their email and having a good pick over millions of online applicants. Let’s face it. If you want to get a good job, you have to think forward. And that’s what career search engines are here for.

by Trevor Davide Grant

The amount of salary one makes throughout their lifetime career and the subsequent lifestyle and quality of life as a result of that income depends a lot on the amount of salary a person negotiates before their first day on the job.

This might be considered whether it is your first job out of university or if it’s a mid-life job change. Further, there are financial impacts when you are in your career working for an employer that you are very happy with, of not negotiating your salary with the best timing.

During your career, you may earn pay raises and job advances within the company that you work for, but when the company offers regularly scheduled increases, as many companies do, the impact of your starting salary with that employer is significant.

This is not only applicable to your first salary negotiation and subsequent incremental pay raises but also to salary differentials you may get when you changes roles within a company. You may switch into a job requiring significantly increased duties, effort, or responsibilities, and the salary you had earned beforehand can genuinely influence the starting salary at the new job.

Take a person starting a career as a system analyst in a high tech company somewhere in the United States, as an example. Say that person begins with a starting salary of $45,000. Most likely that person will have to dedicate at least 6 months to one full year before they are offered their first raise. Suppose it is a 10% raise which would be A LOT in most businesses. That person would gain an additional $4500 yearly based on that raise.

Suppose that same person started at $55,000 or more. That same pay hike of 10% would provide the same employee $5500 additional salary per year. With the first salary band, the employee would still be under the $50,000 mark after one full year of effort and after a 10% pay increase, while in the second situation the employee would be at over $60,000 a year after a 10% pay increment.

Now analyze the compound repercussion of these two starting salaries on the individuals earning potential. First let’s examine a 4 year timeline, all other things being equal (that is, suggesting no pay increases and no job advances). The person earning $45K will have earned $180K in total salary in 4 years. The person earning $55K will have earned $220K in 4 years. That is a $40K difference just based on where the employee started in terms of negotiated compensation.

Introduce a ten percent raise after year 1 and consider the impact as the person moves through their career. The person with a most salary in the beginning will always be ahead of the person with the lower starting salary, all things being equal (i.e. identical job, identical job performance). The person with the higher salary will be getting ahead faster than the person starting with the lower salary. This impact multiplies with each coming year assuming the same annual percentage pay raise for each.

When negotiating a pay raise, if an employee earning $50,000 earns a 5% raise without negotiating anything extra, that might acceptable. Now consider the impact if the person gets a 15% pay raise because they have been a superstar in the job and they have all the supporting market facts and a performance record to justify it. That employee will have negotiated compensation – $7,500 in an increase versus just accepting $2500. Project that 10 years into the future, and there is a blatant $50,000 impact on the person’s earnings.

Many experts suggest that it is better to try negotiating a raise or an improvement to the compensation package than to simply receive the package that is offered. The first offer is often the lowest offer and can be improved with salary negotiation. This negotiation must be done with care and must be well based with a supporting case for the difference.

One must also analyze factors such as market, corporate guidelines, and personal performance. However when done well, it can really pay off. Remember to consider the value of all factors of compensation when asking for a raise. Some people truly value free time, their quality of life, while others are willing to take a chance and maybe accept stock options in lieu of pay.

However, when it comes to negotiating, don’t be afraid to consider asking for more.

ESL Teaching Jobs Lead to Overseas Adventures

I’ve always wanted to travel the world and visit exotic places, but since I’m just a couple years out of college, I really don’t have the funds to do so right now. I’m still paying off student loans and trying to save a little money for a rainy day, but it’s tough to do with the entry-level salary that I’m currently on. So when a friend of mine announced that he was going to move to China to teach English for a year, I asked him a bunch of questions about ESL teaching jobs and decided I needed to have a similar adventure.

I did some more research online about ESL teaching jobs around the world, just to make sure this was something I could get into. I was encouraged to learn that no special certification or training is necessary to teach English as a Second Language; instead, most prospective employers simply require that the applicant have a Bachelor’s degree (any major is ok), a valid passport, and is a native English speaker. Since I qualify on all those points, I began looking through listings of ESL teaching jobs in earnest.

Asian countries seem to have the most ESL teaching jobs available, with China, South Korea, Japan, and Thailand leading the way. But the demand for English teachers is also picking up in places like Spain, the Czech Republic, Russia, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and all throughout South America. It would be amazing to spend a year or more in any of those exotic destinations — all while getting paid good money to teach English for an average of 30 hours a week. Plus, I’d be able to use my weekends and other free time to explore these fabulous countries… Are ESL teaching jobs the best-kept secret out there, or what!

Of course, the prospect of packing up my whole life and moving halfway across the world is a bit scary, but my research into ESL teaching jobs showed me that most employers go out of their way to make the transition as easy as possible. For example, most positions come with a subsidized housing provision so I don’t have to worry about looking for a place to stay. In addition, the employer helps with things like setting up the Internet in my apartment, opening a local bank account, and filing the right visa paperwork for employment eligibility. And there will always be other Americans, Canadians, Aussies, and Brits to hobnob with, so I shouldn’t get too homesick!

I’ve already submitted my resume to a couple of schools offering ESL teaching jobs in China and Japan, as well as one in Peru and one in Spain and one in the UAE. I’m confident that I’ll be hired by at least one of these institutions, and will be on my way to an exciting overseas adventure very soon. I better start packing now!

If you thrive on innovation, growth and success, then a career at Dell might be just for you. Dell satisfies a wide variety of career desires by offering opportunities in IT, Customer Service, Business, Sales, and Engineering. IT positions stem from database management, analysis, software and engineering, and enable IT professionals to apply their expertise in software development, forensics, security analysis, database management, and engineering. Perhaps you are excited about improving people’s lives through technology, and if so, Dell can help you develop a rewarding sales career. Dell offers positions in retail, inside/outside sales, professional and managerial services and more. For the business professional, opportunities can be found as financial analysts, project managers, trainers, consultants, and global online professionals.

Dell provides a rich environment of continuous education, by providing on the job training, mentoring, networking, and company sponsored learning programs designed to help employees reach their career goals. While internal programs keep team managers and members in communication with each other regarding job expectations, Dell’s devotion to its managing staff is supported by the professional development courses designed to advance their managers into key leadership roles in the company.

Applying for a position at Dell is easy. The company has its own job search engine that is broken down by geography and job types. After identifying the desired position, an applicant creates a personal account and profile that remains in the Dell system, but that can be updated at any time. Applicants are then given a pre-screening questionnaire, which helps recruiters match skill sets to current and future positions. From there, an applicant may upload a resume and request notifications when positions of interest become available. Perhaps the most advantageous application method is attendance at one of Dell’s company events detailed on their website.

These events are perfect opportunities for hopefuls to shake hands with Dell representatives, ask questions about desired positions, and most importantly, put a face to a resume. The smart applicant will treat the event as their first interview, dress the part, and really sell themselves into their desired position.

While no one source can determine what a company will pay its future employees, it seems that software engineers’ salaries average from $54,000. to $97,000. depending upon experience level, and those engineers heading departments can easily make a six figure income. Sources, who have analyzed figures from similar companies, put a marketing managers’ salary at an average of $99,000. Even if your initial salary falls short of these estimates, new recruits should remember that the career enhancement training, mentoring and education offered by Dell, place them on a company sponsored career track for success. Before applying for a new career at Dell first see how much you can improve your pay by upgrading your skills with an Online IT Degree that you can earn from home.
